The word “depression” is one which we’ve all become familiar with. As rates of depression rise across the globe, it is quickly becoming one of the most common health conditions on the planet today.

As a result of this trend, scientific research into the various possible treatments for depression is also on the increase. Somewhat controversially, researchers are currently examining the effects of cannabis on depression.

More specifically, a single chemical which is found in cannabis is the subject of much scientific investigation. Cannabidiol, also known as CBD, has been found to have many impressive health benefits and its potential to treat mood disorders such as depression is one which has captured the attention of the scientific community.

One study, in which cannabidiol was used to treat depressed mice, has yielded some fascinating results. Here is the full scientific article on the study if you wish to download it.

CBD as a Treatment for Depression

Depression is a manifestation of inflammation and stress on the body that causes chemical imbalances leading to feeling of despair, low well-being, and lethargy. Western medicine treats depression as though it is a disease in and of itself, which is the incorrect way of going about things. No wonder antidepressant medications are some of the most prescribed, yet least effective drugs on the market.

CBD has recently become the subject of a fair amount of research with regards to alleviation of depression symptoms. This is because CBD interacts with the endocannabinoid system. This is a system in the human body which regulates mood, among other things.

When used, CBD can boost the endocannabinoid system in much the same way as other nutritional supplements do. It is believed that this supports the endocannabinoid system and helps to correct any chemical imbalances that are causing the depression.

When you understand that depression is actually just a symptom of a systemic stress on the body, it becomes a much easier problem to solve. Much of the time it can be caused by mere vitamin and mineral deficiencies. This is why CBD presents such potential as a possible future treatment for depression.
