Cannabis and Weight Loss – The Facts

Medical Marijuana And Weight Loss Diets: The Facts

When you think of weight loss and diets you may think of the Atkins diet, working out in the gym, or even fasting. However, the last thing you may think of is a diet connected to cannabis. This is because cannabis is usually attributed to binge eating. So how could it ever be possible to lose weight in this way? Well, studies are trying to look into cannabis in a way that might contradict previous beliefs.

Overeating with cannabis is not necessarily the case for everyone. More studies are suggesting that cannabis could potentially lessen our appetite and help us to lose weight. However, it is still down to the individual to eat better food and exercise. Essentially, there is no magic elixir to losing weight and cannabis is no exception.

Does Cannabis Make You Lose Weight?

As highlighted, the simple answer to this question is no. However, what researchers have found so far is that THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) had the potential to decrease the weight of obese mice during a study. They also found that cannabis didn’t affect the mice that were of regular weight. In this case, THC was given over a period of time before the results could be recorded. It would appear that THC could halt the feelings of hunger which can lead to eating less and gradual weight loss. However, this test was only conducted on mice. What that means for humans is still unknown.

There are many different theories behind cannabis and its ability to help those to lose weight. However, it’s hard to really distinguish between the facts and rumors. Scientists will tell you that nothing is for certain on the subject. Individuals that have experimented with this speak of their personal experiences, but this does not count as concrete evidence that it works.

The key words to take away from this article is that it might help as an aid. Taking cannabis by itself, without being coupled with exercise or a good clean diet, is going to get you nowhere. As well as this, until proper and precise research has been done with human subjects, we cannot know for certain about cannabis and its effects on losing weight.
