If you or a loved one are suffering from Parkinson’s disease or other movement disorders, help is out there. Keep reading to learn how CBD provides relief.
An astounding one million Americans have Parkinson’s disease, making it the second most common neurodegenerative disorder following Alzheimer’s. This affects more people than those affected by other movement disorders such as ALS, muscular dystrophy or multiple sclerosis – combined.
Characterized by involuntary tremors and painful spasms, movement disorders are extremely painful. They affect your quality of life, making it difficult to interact socially, and the expensive medications can plummet your financial situation.
The problem is, there is absolutely no cure for movement disorders. Even worse, no one knows yet how to prevent them. So not only do people suffer from them, they also have to live on medications with harsh side effects for the rest of their lives.
There is a new treatment at the forefront of movement disorder research, CBD oil. The results are nothing short of miraculous, reducing tremors and lessening pain.

Imagine parts of your body moving without you wanting them to. Involuntary muscle spasms, tremors, and jerking are all uncontrolled movements called Dyskinesia. These are the most common symptoms of movement disorders.
This is like having the hiccups all day, but with pain in your entire body.
When you voluntarily move, such as smiling or giving a high-five, you use a complex signal within your Central Nervous system. The CNS even controls involuntary movement, such as breathing and posture NS.
Though there is no known cause, scientists suspect that movement disorders are inherited, and passed down through the family. There are other cases that cause these disorders as well. This includes auto-immune diseases. infections, injuries, and certain medications.
The cerebellum and the basal ganglia are two main parts of the CNS that are responsible for movement. Malfunction or damage to the CNS results in a movement disorder.
Many people with movement disorders develop a loss of balance. This is because the cerebellum that is responsible for coordination, and the basal ganglia which smoothes movements are both damaged.
Let’s start with the mother of all MD’s:
A neurodegenerative brain disorder that develops when dopamine production slows down in the brain. The main symptoms are tremors all over the body, bradykinesia (slowness of movement) and painful stiffness.
A progressive and neurodegenerative brain disorder, which develops when dopamine production slows down in the brain. Dopamine is a chemical produced in the Substantia Nigra, a region of the brain. Dopamine manages smooth muscle movement and motor control in the body.
One of the most frustrating things about Parkinson’s is that patients can experience extreme swings in their motion control. In just the span of a few hours, they can go from normal function to complete immobility. Eventually, this disease becomes completely disabling and requires assistance from a caregiver for everything, including eating.
Parkinson’s disease is not fatal, but complications from it can be. This could happen in stage 5 when it affects all motor control and cognitive function. Early detection in the early sign on Parkinson’s makes no difference in the outcome.
Since Parkinson’s is a progressive disease, and it affects people in many different ways. There are five defined main stages of PD displayed in typical patterns.
A person in this stage typically has no effect on their activities of daily living. Small signs such as postural changes and facial expressions will start happening.
Tremors, rigidity and other movements start affecting both sides of the body, making daily tasks more difficult.
The movement starts to slow down, along with the loss of balance and frequent falls. Dressing and eating become more difficult.
At this point, standing becomes much more difficult, requiring a walker. It is nearly impossible to live alone.
This is the most debilitating stage, where there is now psychosis symptoms that accompany the physical effects. The person is either bedridden or in a wheelchair and requires a nursing home or
This degenerative disease occurs when there are damaged nerve cells in the Central Nervous system. Hard plaques develop and affect the “Myelin”, which is the insulating material that surrounds the cell.
Multiple Sclerosis is considered as an auto-immune disease, disrupting the communication between the CNS and the body. Basically, the immune system attacks its own Myelin around the nerve cells, located in the brain and spinal cord.
There is no known cause for MS, but researchers have discovered that it is partially genetic, environmental, or even an unknown virus.
There are many other disorders that affect movement. The other most common ones are;
Huntington’s disease has the most severe tremors of all movement disorders. In fact, some patients have to wear a helmet or even contain their limbs in order to prevent further damage to them.
Now that you understand the cause and effect of these terrible disorders, you are probably curious as to how can CBD oil help treat them.
CBD is an abbreviation for cannabidiol oil. Created using an extraction process from using either the marijuana or hemp plant. Extracting the CBD gives the consumer the amazing medical benefits, thankfully without experiencing the high that comes from THC.
There are no psychedelic properties in CBD, studies show it is completely safe for consumption.
The use of CBD oil and Parkinson’s has been nothing short of miraculous. Since more and more studies have proved its benefits, more states are moving towards legalization.
In 2014, one study discovered that within 30 minutes of smoking marijuana, patients felt relief from pain, rigidity, tremors, as well as improved sleep. CBD oil can reduce inflammation and decrease pain without the psychoactive effects of THC.
Cannabidiol slows the progression of Parkinson’s by improving the function of the cell’s mitochondria and providing neuroprotective effects. In 1998, a study discovered the antioxidant properties of CBD, more effective than vitamin C and E.
CBD has also shown significant help with Parkinson’s patients that experience psychosis. In just four weeks, patients displayed a substantial decrease in psychotic symptoms in the Parkinson’s Psychosis Questionnaire (PPQ).
A study in 2015 found that cannabis products are effective in reducing central neuropathic pain and sleep disturbances in patients with MS. Another Study discovered that CBD reduced the rigidity, pain, and spasticity symptoms of MS, resulting in improved active and passive mobility. This improved their quality of life to the point where at times, they did not even feel like they had a disease!
That same study discovered the effects that CBD can help prevent illnesses that affect the central nervous system by rebuilding fatty acids and myelin. This along with the anti-inflammatory properties of CBD oil, also answered the question if CBD can help autoimmune diseases.
The non-natural ways of dealing with Parkinson’s disease can have harsh side effects. Some of which will require more pharmaceuticals, this is not aiding to the quality of life that people are aiming for when looking for relief from the disease.
Some drugs for Parkinson’s disease can cause;
That is a laundry list of problems. Now let’s look at the side effects of CBD;
Keeping in mind that cannabidiol does not carry the same effects as smoking marijuana, it is safe to say that its side effects are pretty limited.
If you qualify for surgery, there is a procedure called Deep Brain Stimulation. DBS uses electrical stimulations to control centers deep in the brain. This improves communication between cells in the brain.
Unfortunately, this is no cure, symptoms will still progress causing pain to the patient.
This amazing documentary has the proof in the pudding. Larry Smith is a man who has suffered from Parkinson’s disease for over 20 years, and he is a big advocate for CBD’s relief on the disease.
Larry has tried every available drug and treatment on the planet. He has even tried brain surgery, all with no reliable effects. The day he started using CBD oil, his life changed for the better.
In summary, cannabinoids have a promising future in the relief and treatment for movement disorders and Parkinson’s disease. f you or someone you love is suffering, it is time to get your quality of life back.
If you do not want to live a life full of painful procedures or suffer from the side effects of harsh medications, start trying a natural approach today.
