We all know that cannabis carries a large stigma due to the “negative” impact that it has on society. Especially since we were informed that there is a strong link regarding Schizophrenia and Cannabis. Since the little study has been carried out regarding the link between Schizophrenia and Cannabis, nobody can decide on the relationship between them.
People have been told that cannabis is a direct cause of schizophrenia. As some or many patients with schizophrenia use cannabis. But maybe this is because these patients have realized that it helps their symptoms? Due to the lack of resources and studies carried out between these two, it is difficult to come to any sort of conclusion.
This is why it’s important to not jump to conclusions until the proof is right before our eyes. Besides, it’s only until recent years and more and more studies and results are being carried out about the medical benefits of cannabis. So, for now, I think that it’s important to keep an open mind on the subject.
To this date, the relationship between cannabis use and schizophrenia is not clear due to the lack of studies indicating whether or not cannabis causes schizophrenia or not. But there are studies regarding cannabis as a treatment for schizophrenia.
So at this moment in time, there is no right or wrong answer, because all medical professionals, scientists, and researchers look to be sitting on the fence regarding the relationship between schizophrenia and cannabis. A lot of this has to do with the fact that cannabis is illegal all over the world minus two or three countries so researchers have difficulty getting there hands on plants to carry out studies due to strict protocols. At this stage, we shouldn’t believe one over the other as there are very little to no evidence to back up any reasoning.
