Texas parents, lawmakers, and doctors are pushing to legalize Cannabinol Oils (CBD) for use in seizures. Oils from the cannabis plant have been called a “miracle drug” for children suffering from Dravet Syndrome.
While the parents and doctors of four-year-old Alissa Howard understand there is no known cure for Dravet Syndrome they believe CBD oils are her best chance at leading a normal life. Up to several times a day Allissa can experience seizures which can lead to developmental delays and have left her with only an 85% chance of surviving to adulthood.
While Alissa is currently taking three separate medications, they are not able to control the disease. After finding testimony from other parents of children suffering from the disease Alissa’s mother began fighting for this treatment to become available in Texas. The CBD medication would be placed under the tongue or inside the cheeks and has been shown to allow the patient to eliminate other medications which come with their own adverse side effects.
CBD oils have no psychoactive effects and do not create a high in the users. FT Worth Republican Stephany Click, who is co-sponsoring the bill believes it is a reasonable approach with no potential for abuse. Cannabis is showing great potential in the medical and beauty industry, however, talk to your doctor before you part-take in CBD.
If you wish to use medical cannabis or CBD oil (cannabidiol) as a form of treatment for seizures or any other medical condition or ailment, make sure that you first consult a medical professional or your local doctor. They will guide you in the right direction in terms of strains, dosing and methods to ingest medical cannabis.
