Medical Cannabis Helps My Son with Rare Disease

My son has a rare disease, usin medical cannabis to treat him

A father’s son has been suffering from a sporadic disease his whole life. Every day, his child, Jaydon has seizure upon seizure. Despite 22 separate medications in every combination, Jaydon still suffered from seizures that could last for over an hour. Jayden suffers from Dravet Syndrome, which is an dysfunction of the brain known as epileptic encephalopathy. It is a very rare genetic disorder. This rare disease can affect even the healthiest of children, and it generally begins before the childs first birthday. From the age of four months, Jayden would have at least one seizure a day. Jayden’s health was deteriorating fast, he was taking pill after pill after pill, and he had to take an ambulance over 40 times before he was five years old.

Recent study shows Phytocannabinoids, especially CBD and CBDV, have demonstrated anticonvulsant effects in vitro and in vivo, and at least one double-blind study suggest that CBD reduces seizure frequency and is well tolerated in adult epileptic patients.

When a child has Dravet Syndrome, the entire family suffers because watching a child suffer so much is unimaginable. This continued until he was four and a half when Jayden first used Cannabidiol (CBD) oils. CBD is an extract from the marijuana plant that contains no THC, the psychoactive ingredient in marijuana that gives a high. This product does not get the user high but has broad sweeping benefits when dealing with seizures. The medications Jayden would take before CBD had numerous adverse side effects, these alone cause health risks. Unlike these harsh medications, CBD oils have no adverse side effects.

Jaydon’s father was apparently going to be concerned over the fact that he was going to be judged for giving his own son a form of cannabis. Jaydon’s father continues to say that once cannabis is saving his son’s life, and giving him the best quality of life, then it shouldn’t matter.
