Dr. Sanjay Gupta is a respected and well known neurosurgeon and media reporter. He previously opposed the legalization of cannabis and thought that the scientific studies on medical marijuana were lacking credibility. However, he began to do further research and noted the beneficial effects that it was having on people with epilepsy in particular. Now, Dr. Sanjay Gupta is an advocate for medicinal marijuana and hopes that the stigma towards it will end.
Epilepsy is a disease that effects the brain. It can start at any age and people with this disease are prone to having epileptic seizures. A seizure occurs when there is a sudden jolt of intense electrical activity in the brain and causes a disturbance on how the brain would usually function.
Dr. Sanjay Gupta argues that with the help of CBD, epileptic seizures can come to a hault significantly. Gupta refers to a patient of only 3 years old, named Charlotte Figi. It is reported that Figi was having about 300 seizures a week, regardless of the fact that she was taking several different medications.
With the help of using CBD, Figi has been limited to about 2 or 3 seizures per month. Dr. Sanjay Gupta argues that this is a significant difference and states that it would be irresponsible not to include using CBD to help patients such as Figi. He has been studying the topic for 5+ years and has met many other people just like Figi who are severely struggling with epilepsy on a daily basis.
However, even with Dr. Sanjay Gupta and his research, if you are considering taking CBD or medicinal marijuana to help treat epilepsy, you should always talk this through with your doctor to determine what is the best option for you.
