Science Explains How Cannabis Kills Cancer Cells

Cannabis Kills Cancer Cells

Since the 1980s scientists have known about the endocannabinoid system. An endocannabinoid system is a group of receptors in our bodies that allow us to process the chemicals produced by Cannabis. Not only that, but our body is capable of producing these chemicals itself.

Together, they help in creating a healthy environment in our bodies. In this video, Dr. Christina Sanchez, from the Complutense University in Madrid (Spain) discusses the use of Cannabis and the endocannabinoid system in fighting cancer.

Dr. Christina is a molecular biologist and has been looking at how cancer affects the human body for years. A while ago she experimented with how cancerous cells would react to THC, the main compound in Cannabis. She discovered that the THC was killing the cancerous cells.

After advancing her research by experimenting on animals she made a further discovery. Not only were the cancer cells dying but they were effectively “committing suicide”. This, of course, is the best way for cancer to be treated as it means only the tumour cells die and has no effect on healthy cells.

Now through extra research, it has been shown that CBD, another cannabinoid, has a synergistic effect on THC leading to even greater results.

Though more research is needed these findings are extremely exciting in our understanding of cancer treatment.
