Directions for Using Dronabinol
The primary use of Dronabinol is to treat nausea and vomiting caused by chemotherapy. Nausea is the feeling of uneasiness in the stomach that often comes before vomiting. The secondary is as an appetite stimulant for people with low appetite and weight loss caused by AIDS. The medication works by affecting the area of people’s brain that controls vomiting, nausea, and appetite. Dronabinol comes as a liquid solution or a capsule and is taken orally.

The medication is usually taken 1 to 3 hours before undergoing chemotherapy and then again 2 to 4 hours after. Patients take a total of 4 to 6 doses a day. Usually the first dose of the solution is taken on an empty stomach at least 30 minutes before eating. After the first, the other doses can be made either without or with food.
