Eric has suffered from Rheumatoid Arthritis since he was such a child. He has been taking medications his whole life in order to treat this condition. Eric was suffering from a few side effects due to the vast amount of medication that he was taking for his arthritis. Cannabis has enabled him to substantially reduce his use of pharmaceutical drugs as well as reduce the symptoms that he was experiencing with Rheumatoid Arthritis.

How is Cannabis a Medicinal Drug?

There are over 113 cannabinoids found in the cannabis plant. These cannabinoids are chemical compounds. Two of which are scientifically and clinically proven to hold medicinal properties. These are THC and CBD. These chemicals mimic cannabinoids that are naturally occurring in our body. The cannabinoids in the human body are formed through the endocannabinoid system (ECS).

CBD or cannabidiol is an active ingredient in the cannabis plant. It is effective in controlling:

  • Pain
  • Inflammation
  • Burning sensations

CBD does not have the psychoactive compounds, therefore it doesn’t make the user high. However, THC on the other hand does. In some states medical cannabis can only be provided by your doctor or registered dispensary. In the cases of non-medically regulated dispensaries we advise that you seek medical advice before using any medication or treatment. THC is an illegal substance all over the world, but many countries are looking into its medicinal properties and are starting to regulate the drug for medical use.

How Can Cannabis Be Used as a Form of Treatment?

Cannabis can consumed or used directly onto the treatable area. Treatable areas refers to cannabis based oils and creams for skin related conditions such as burns, acne or overall skin dryness. Consumption refers to either eating cannabis or inhaling it in some way. Inhaling can be carried out via smoking or using a vaporizer.

Both are considered to have their own medical disadvantages here which is why medical advice should be considered be fore using them. Other than this you can eat cannabis based treatments via oil drops, or leaves/oils mixed into different foods i.e. gummies, brownies or cookies.

Most studies and anecdotal testimonies state that CBD oils are the best form of cannabis treatment but once again medical advice should be taken before doing so. If you wish to use cannabis as a form of treatment, make sure to consult your doctor and check your state/countries laws regarding the plant to avoid illegal activity.
