It seems like there’s a new fad in the health industry every other minute: If it’s not coconut oil, it’s turmeric. When it’s not either of those, it’s something else. Everyone claims to have found that one thing, that cure-all, that “super-pill” that they insist you can’t live without. Maybe you’ve already heard people claiming that CBD oil can cure skin cancer, instantly stop epileptic seizures, treat psoriasis and also act as a great addition to your beauty regimen. You roll your eyes, because you know nothing can work that well. This must just be the next thing, right?

Not so fast. While CBD is not going to magically cure everything, clinical trials are still being conducted, and so far CBD has been able to hold its own when it comes to successfully treating a wide variety of illnesses. This is somewhat irrelevant, however, unless you are actively seeking CBD out to treat a preexisting condition. You may wonder if or how CBD can benefit your life as a healthy adult.

The truth is, all of us are aging. Through the course of our adult lives, everything begins to deteriorate: our skin, bones, brain and other organs. Over time, we may begin to experience aches and pains that weren’t there before, little flare-ups and small medical conditions that need to be treated. The threat of cancer seems to hang around in basically everything: processed foods, pharmaceuticals, pollution in the environment, even our genetics. Hypertension and cardiovascular diseases are an epidemic in the United States. As if that’s not enough, we all deal with the stresses of modern daily life which can impact our memory, performance, mood, and all-over well-being.

While CBD may not make you wake up with no problems, a great job, and perfect genetics, it can definitely play a role in encouraging optimum health and slowing down the aging process throughout the body. You may be surprised to find that CBD oil is packed with benefits for just about everyone. Here are a few ways CBD oil can benefit even the healthiest individual:

CBD is great for your skin

A large portion of cannabinoid receptors are found on the skin. CBD is patented by the United States Government as a highly beneficial antioxidant, which not only assists in treating diseases but can help you have your best skin as well.

CBD can help alleviate pain

Everyone experiences pain in some way or another. Whether it’s a chronic ache in your back from long office hours or nerve pain from an old injury, CBD has been found to be a key player in pain reduction. Between reducing inflammation and interacting with receptors that regulate pain sensation, CBD oil has been found to significantly decrease pain whether it’s used orally or topically.

CBD reduces inflammation

Whether you realize it or not, our bodies experience inflammation every day, whether its as a response to something we’ve eaten (even mild food allergies cause adrenal inflammation) or physical inflammation caused by rheumatoid arthritis or an injured body part. CBD is known for its anti-inflammatory properties, and moderate doses can help you stay on top of symptoms.

CBD can inhibit cancer cell growth

You may not have cancer, but wouldn’t it be nice to know you were doing something to actively prevent it from potentially happening in the future? CBD has been found to decrease cancer cells’ energy production, which leads to their death. CBD also blocks CPR55 signaling, which decreases cancer cell production.

CBD can help you sleep better

Who doesn’t need a better night’s sleep? In a survey involving 74,571 adults in 12 states, 37.9% reported unintentionally nodding off or falling asleep during the day, and 4.7% reported actually nodding off while driving at least once in the preceding month. Adults are recommended to get at least 7-8 hours of sleep every single night, while most report getting less than 6 hours on a regular basis. Insufficient sleep can lead to a wide variety of problems, including a weakened immune system and poor memory and focus. One of CBD’s known side effects is drowsiness and lethargy, and this is usually the case especially when taken in higher doses. When ingested orally before bedtime, one can expect to begin feeling tired 20 minutes to an hour later. Sweet dreams.

CBD can help you manage your weight

Just when you thought this cannabinoid couldn’t get any better: A recent publication in scientific journal Molecular and Cellular Biochemistry reports studies on the effects of CBD administered into immature fat cells. It was found that CBD stimulated the genes and proteins that activate the breakdown of fat, increased the body’s ability to burn calories, and decreased the expression of proteins involved in fat cell regeneration.

CBD can help you be a better athlete

When you exercise, your body produces something called anandamide, an endocannabinoid dubbed “the Bliss Molecule.” This is your body’s naturally-produced cannabinoid, and when it binds to cannabinoid receptors, it creates a calming, anti-inflammatory effect.

While studies on CBD are still being conducted all over the globe, the data is undeniable: the way CBD interacts with the human body promotes innumerable benefits for overall health. Efforts to demystify CBD and its benefits are in full swing. Additionally, with the recent surge in acceptance of CBD as a powerful medicine more than a harmful drug, it is becoming significantly easier to push advanced research and education, which benefits us all.

CBD is not for everyone. If you decide to add CBD to your daily supplementation, it is important to spend some time in research. Not all products on the market are quality and not all companies are reputable. It’s also highly recommended to talk to a trusted medical professional and ask lots of questions when considering adding CBD to your daily regimen. CBD can interact with certain medications: be sure to take that into consideration, especially if you are taking anything on this list. Side effects are few and very minor, but CBD oil can react differently to anyone. Listen to your body, and determine for yourself if CBD oil can be a benefit to you.
