Becca Williams explains the side effects of taking cannabis as a person who suffers with anxiety. She says people who use cannabis over a number of years or who use it in substance abuse may increase the risk of feeling symptoms of anxiety or panic disorder.
Becca explains that this is due to one of the compounds in the cannabis plant. This compound is known as THC (the element which holds the psychoactive part). THC is known to amplify anxiety.
There is another compound that has proven to treat anxiety in the cannabis plant, which is CBD (Cannabidiol). Becca suggests that if you think that cannabis may help you and want to use medical cannabis as a form of treating your anxiety, to make sure that you purchase something that contains very low THC and a high amount of CBD.
Becca believe that the legalisation of cannabis is extremely important in the United states. Many people result to buying cannabis in the black market where other illegal drugs can be purchased. Cannabis sold in the black market has likely never been lab tested, and the cannabis plant is not traceable. Therefore you may be taking much higher doses of THC and CBD than recommended by doctors or dispensaries. This is why cannabis is rated as a Class A drug until it can be 100% controlled in a lab environment.
Please note that: If anxiety is left untreated, it can lead to depression and other mental health problems. If you wish to start using medical cannabis or CBD as a form of treatment or any medical condition, physical or mental, make sure that you consult your doctor. It’s also important to check the laws and regulations regarding the cannabis plant (especially THC) as it is illegal in most places around the world.
