Searching for a CBD skin care product that doesn’t break the bank? You’re not alone. CBD beauty products aren’t cheap — but if you know what to look for, you can still find hidden gems that can deliver impressive results while being friendly to your budget.
The days of taking care of your skin by washing it with warm soapy water are long gone. Today, the global skin care industry is worth over $330 billion, according to Harvard Business School professor Geoffrey Jones — which is more than the diet and exercise industries combined. Evidently, we take our skin care very seriously and as a result, many of us are willing to shell out big bucks in our pursuit of the perfect complexion. This is especially true when it comes to using CBD beauty products, which are becoming more luxurious by the day as brands like The Chillery raise CBD to new heights of opulence. But some experts say effective skin care doesn’t need to cost an arm and a leg.
Hedy Setyadi, a Florida-based dermatologist, warns that consumers need to be wary of paying hefty price tags for trendy ingredients that haven’t been proven to actually work. “You’d be better off spending that money and effort on products that work,” she told INSIDER.
This is a particularly relevant argument in the case of the CBD skin care industry, which has come under fire by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for exaggerating claims made about the effects of CBD on the skin. During a public hearing that sought to investigate these issues, one beauty exec told the FDA that he believed CBD had more value as a marketing ploy than an actual skin-enhancing ingredient.
But whether a product is cannabinoid-infused or not, when it comes to developing a skin care regimen that works for both your skin and your bank account, finding multipurpose products is key according to Dr. Jennifer Kitchin, a dermatologist in New York.
“Buying a separate makeup remover is a waste of money,” she explained to INSIDER. “I recommend finding an effective and gentle cleanser for your face, and [using] it on a regular basis. Cleansing your face effectively will remove dirt, debris, and excess oil. It will also remove your makeup, saving you both time and money.”
Still, there’s no getting away from the fact that a lower price point can mean lower quality, and customers should always be aware of this. Affordable CBD products are often made with broad spectrum CBD oil, which is often not quite as effective as full spectrum oil. But they are better than CBD isolates, which contain none of the cannabinoids or terpenes found in the cannabis plant, so you can still have a good shot of seeing a positive impact on your skin.
Today, there are so many CBD skin care products on the market — Urban Outfitters alone offers 70 items — it can be hard to know where to start. Luckily for you, we’ve rounded up some of the best affordable CBD skin products so you can create a simple but effective skin care regimen on a budget.
A good facial oil is an essential for supple, hydrated skin. They also have the added benefit of acting as anti-wrinkle creams, because soft skin is more flexible and doesn’t form lines like dry skin does. Often, they can include soothing ingredients to minimize redness and irritation, too. The facial oil from Kiskanu ticks all of these boxes and more.
It combines full spectrum CBD oil with other plant-based ingredients such as cold-pressed, virgin, organic oils like sunflower, argan and coconut, all of which have calming and deeply moisturizing effects on the skin. Kiskanu has all of their products lab tested to ensure quality across the board, giving customers a little added peace of mind. As a bonus, it’s simple to use, requiring just two pumps of oil per use.
At $36, this is the most expensive item in our roundup, but given that it’s a “jack of all trades,” it makes sense to spend a little extra. Kiskanu say that it can be used as a makeup remover, cleanser, and a primer too, which means you get serious value for money from one little product.
Abinoid Botanicals Face Toner $23.99
Toning is an important step in any skin care regimen. It closes up the pores which have been opened during the cleansing process, preventing sweat, dirt, and grime from clogging them up and causing a breakout. But toners can also do much more than this.
The toner from Abinoid Botanicals uses full spectrum CBD oil along with twelve other plant-based ingredients to create a product that’s ideal for use on even the most sensitive skin. These ingredients restore the all-important pH balance in the skin, which is necessary for balanced tone and texture.
You can use the product on your face, neck, and body by simply spraying its refreshing mist onto the skin. It needs a few minutes to soak in, at which point you can follow it with your facial oil to finish.
CBDfx CBD Face Mask Bundle $29.95
Cleansing, toning, and moisturizing every day is usually more than enough to keep your skin in prime condition. Despite what many beauty gurus might have you believe, a forty-step skin care routine is not only unnecessary but also wasteful and super costly — as New York dermatologist Cybele Fishman told TODAY, “I think people do too much to their skin and often end up harming it with all the extra steps. One of my mantras is, ‘Don’t overwash your skin, don’t overtone, and don’t overexfoliate.’”
However, sometimes our skin needs a little extra TLC after a hard day, week, or month. And when it does, nothing does the job quite like a luxurious mask. Enter the masks by CBDfx.
These masks can be bought individually for $6.00 a piece, but their bundle of five masks is much better value. Plus, each mask is designed to tackle a different skin complaint, so if you’re skin is breaking out you can use their CBD Charcoal Mask — and if it’s feeling tired and dull, you can opt for their CBD Cucumber Mask.
The masks themselves each contain 20 mg of broad spectrum CBD oil, so they won’t deliver quite the same punch as a full spectrum product. But they’re certainly effective enough to give you happier, healthier skin in just 10 minutes.
