When we think of skin care we tend to think of women, but the men’s skin care industry is rapidly growing and the range of products specifically designed for men is expanding by the day. This rise of men’s skin care has dovetailed with another trend sweeping the nation — CBD, to be specific — and today men have more choice than ever when it comes to incorporating CBD oil into their skin care routines.

Men’s skin care has become a large (and lucrative) industry, one that is expected to be worth a hefty $166 billion by the year 2022. Far from the olden days when men were discouraged from taking pride in their appearance or behaving in ways that could be seen as vain, today’s men are being encouraged to take care of their skin type in much the same way as women (although not to the same extent).

The internet is positively packed with advice on how women can integrate CBD into their skin care routines. But what about men? There is no doubt that despite the growth in the men’s skin care space, there is still less choice for men than there is for women when it comes to products. Still, there are many ways that men can join the CBD skin care revolution.

Shaving

Despite the fact that big, luscious beards have become one of the defining features of the male millennial, men’s shaving is still big business. Any man who shaves knows too well the frustration of painful cuts and nicks, ingrown hairs, and razor burn, all of which are common side effects of shaving. However, by using the right products, preparing the skin well before shaving, and keeping the skin in it’s best possible condition, you can master the art of (painless) shaving in no time.

Using a CBD exfoliator every day can help to remove dead skin cells from the surface of the skin, lowering the likelihood of ingrown hairs developing after shaving. Facial oils and lotions that contain CBD are thought to soothe sensitive skin (in a similar way to aloe vera), preventing irritation or razor burn. Cleansing the face thoroughly with a CBD facial cleanser and warm water can give the pores a chance to open before shaving, making you less likely to cut your skin.

There are a ton of new CBD shaving products on the market today to choose from, but you can whip up your very own DIY CBD shaving cream at home pretty easily.

Breakouts

Whether you suffer from severe acne or the occasional stress breakout, pimples are something that we all have to deal with from time to time. Men are no different from women in this regard, and having the right skin care products in your toiletry bag or on your bathroom shelf can give your skin the best possible chance of clearing up quickly.

The effects of CBD on acne prone skin have been studied quite a bit in recent years. Some researchers believe that CBD could have the ability to correct the overproduction of sebum, a natural skin oil which can clog pores with dirt and oil, thus causing the symptoms of acne. Other research has focused on CBD’s ability to reduce inflammation, which is what causes acne-prone skin to become red, swollen, and sore. Another subset of CBD researchers think that CBD could help to reduce anxiety, which could in turn reduce stress-caused breakouts.

Skin care brands have picked up on the strides made in this particular field of research and have started adding CBD to their acne products. Although there isn’t any evidence that is totally conclusive, it does seem that CBD can have beneficial effects on acne-prone skin. So if you suffer from breakouts or acne, trying a CBD product — such as eye creams, facial cleansers and oil free lotions — could be a great way to test out these effects for yourself.

Anti-Aging

Women aren’t the only ones who are concerned about the signs of aging on their skin. In today’s society, youthful skin is probably one of the most unrealistic standards to which we’re held, and the pressure to always look like a bright and bubbly 20-something-year-old can be intense. Of course, there are skin care products that can make a real difference to how your skin handles the sands of time, and CBD products could be among some of the best.

CBD is a powerful antioxidant. This means that it fights off free radicals, which are tiny molecules that create oxidation of the cells in the body and cause fine lines and wrinkles. Antioxidants have always played a big role in anti-aging skin care, with vitamin C and E being the two most popular and widely used up until now.

But according to researchers, CBD is more effective than vitamin C and E as an antioxidant. As a result, it’s no wonder so many anti-aging products are now adding CBD oil to their formulae — CBD could be the best solution for aging skin on the market yet. If you’re thinking of incorporating CBD into your skin care routine somehow, adding a CBD anti-aging product is a great way to do it.

Women’s skin care has welcomed the arrival of CBD to the market with open arms, so it’s not surprising that men’s brands are now starting to follow suit. And all the hype is more than just clever marketing — there is a growing body of scientific research to suggest CBD could be excellent for the skin.

And who wouldn’t want that?  Our skin puts up with a lot over the years, from occasional smoking and drinking, regular late nights and stress, to daily sun damage and pollution. Men are becoming more aware of this than ever before, and finding the right products for their skin is becoming a priority for the modern man. Luckily, there are so many easy ways for them to do this, and CBD skin care is no exception.
