Anti-aging products are one of the most in-demand skin care products on the market today. As skin experts advise us to begin the process earlier and earlier, the pressure on women to prevent the 7 signs of aging builds.

However, the amount of information and advice that’s out there for women who are trying to do this can be really overwhelming. Even worse than the sheer volume, much of the advice is conflicting. So, it becomes even more difficult to know what steps we should be taking to take the best possible care of our skin.

Believe it or not, preventing the fine lines and wrinkles that we all come to dread doesn’t necessarily have to mean spending hundreds of your hard-earned dollars each year on the shiniest new products. It’s true that many of the products designed and created by big brands can have enormously positive effects on the skin, but you can make your very own anti-aging face creams at home for a fraction of the price.

What Makes the Best Anti-Aging Cream?

Key to using the best possible products on your skin is understanding what to look out for when shopping around. The most important thing is to find a product that fights free radicals. These are molecules in the skin which cause the effects of aging on the skin. While free radicals are a totally natural occurrence in the body, when left unchecked they can wreak havoc on the skin.

You can prevent the excessive production of free radicals very easily by minimising sun damage. Exposure to harmful UV rays really increases the production of these molecules which then go on to attack healthy cells in the skin. Protecting the skin from sun damage can go a long way towards reducing the signs of aging on the skin, both on your face and throughout your body.

Thankfully, there are some ingredients that can significantly reduce free radicals. In particular, antioxidants such as green tea are really effective at this. So, products which contain them as their active ingredients have always been more effective than those that don’t.

Similarly, day creams and night creams that promote collagen production can be hugely beneficial. Collagen is naturally produced by the body. This is what keeps the skin looking plump and youthful. However, as we age our bodies produce less and less collagen. Lotions and potions that increase this can improve skin and even lead to wrinkle repair for existing fine lines.

Retinol creams are generally accepted to be the ideal formulae for anti-aging. They tackle free radicals, boost collagen production, minimize pores and even speed up cell turnover which means your skin quite literally looks newer.

CBD-infused creams have become popular in the beauty industry as a form of combatting aging. Studies show that CBD (cannabidiol) has beneficial effects on the skin. While studies are still in early stages, CBD looks to be a promising treatment. As a result, there are a wide range of CBD products available, however these can be expensive, which is why we’ve add this to our list.

Although it’s easy to assume that you need to have access to complicated chemicals in order to produce a quality anti aging cream at home, this isn’t true. Thankfully, many of the ingredients that have these effects can be bought easily and used in the home.
