CBD stands for cannabidiol, which is a chemical compound found within the cannabis family of plants which include cannabis sativa, indica and the hemp plant respectively. The word cannabidiol broken down refers to its chemical make up which is C21H30O2. It is just one of about 113 known cannabinoids that can be found within each plant. However, the percentage count of cannabinoids is dependent on the plant. For example the majority of each plant will include CBD but other may include a slightly higher percentage of THC (Tetrahydrocannabinol). CBD is a non-psychoactive compound known to have major anti-inflammatory capabilities.
CBD is a relatively new addition to the homeopathy market. While the level of interest in CBD is growing rapidly, both within the scientific community and mainstream population, most people still know relatively little about the product. For this reason, most people have many questions but haven’t necessarily got any of the answers. So, if you’ve been wondering about CBD but haven’t gotten answers to the questions that are on your mind, we’re here to answer them for you.
CBD Properties and Their Potential Benefits
CBD has many beneficial effects on a whole host of medical conditions and diseases. CBD products have been used to help prevent seizures and reduce spasms. It is an anti-inflammatory and has anti-anxiety properties that have been used to help reduce the symptoms of anxiety and PTSD. It is an antidepressant, it can improve skin conditions like acne and eczema, and it can help prevent or treat hypertension (high blood pressure).
It has a lot of promise for other health care areas as well and is being studied in cancer therapy, Alzheimer’s, multiple sclerosis and other neurodegenerative disorders because it has a neuroprotective effect. While further research is needed in order for us to understand the full potential of CBD (cannabidiol), the evidence that currently exists would suggest that the sky really is the limit for CBD.
CBD Properties and Their Potential Side Effects
Many studies have examined the safety and efficacy of CBD. So far, those studies have shown that CBD does not cause any major side effects when compared to the serious fatal side effects of modern opioids. This is true regardless of how the CBD is administered or what dosage is given. However, tests are preliminary. We do know that CBD may have an effect on hormones so further study is being conducted in that area. Until a greater body of evidence to prove that CBD does not cause side effects is produced, it is always recommend to air on the side of caution.
No. CBD and THC are very different molecules even though they come from the same cannabis plant. They can both help with pain but CBD is also an anti-inflammatory and there are many other ways it benefits health which THC does not. Furthermore, CBD has been proven to actually counter the effects of THC’s psychoactive property.
This means it can “dim the high” from THC. THC health benefits are being continuously studied due to the massive medical potential implications they could have if using it more widely was legal. This is because THC has been said to “cure” many serious illnesses according to anecdotal evidence provided by the patients using it. So, while CBD and THC are found together, they are certainly not similar and do not produce the exact same results.
Important Note: While some patients of major illnesses may experience life changing benefits from the use of either THC or CBD we acknowledge that further research is needed before it can be recommended for wider use. Please contact a medical professional before deciding to use any medications mentioned.
A cannabis strain refers to the specific variation of cannabis plant, of which there are many. Some strains are high CBD strains meaning they have a high percentage of CBD in the plant. Other strains of cannabis are balanced with near equal amounts of THC and CBD, while still others are high in THC and lower in CBD. Different strains of cannabis are grown for different purposes. Hemp is low in THC and therefore hemp oil is always higher in CBD.
Is It Safe To Cook With CBD Infused Cooking Oil?
CBD oil is said to be safe to cook with, yes, but you should be sure that the oil you use is pure and does not contain any harmful chemicals or chemicals that might become harmful with heating. Like any other product that you buy, look for high-quality CBD oil. To be sure of this, source your CBD oil only from trusted sources who have their product independently tested in a laboratory for purity. It does not like high, direct heat so do not try to fry with it but incorporate the oil into other food to be cooked.
What Is The Endocannabinoid System?
The endocannabinoid system is a natural part of our bodies. It is a part of the immune system that is not yet fully understood and its structures (receptors) exist in almost every tissue in the body. CBD does not have a direct effect on us. Instead, it acts indirectly by stimulating the endocannabinoid system to respond to something that is going on in our bodies or to step up our bodies’ natural defenses.
The endocannabinoid system can do marvelous things for us, like reduce our blood pressure, strengthen our skin against the outside world and protect our brains before, during and after an injury. It also regulates the way we feel pain. Studies are underway to both understand more about the endocannabinoid system and how cannabidiol works to stimulate it and how those discoveries can be used to improve our health and treat various conditions. The future is very promising.
