Recent research has shown that CBD can be beneficial to patients with high blood pressure. But because CBD is not routinely used or understood by physicians, it is difficult to determine how to use it. Here are some guidelines on how to find the right dose of CBD oil.

Every day new research is in the news about the benefits of CBD oil. We hear how it is helping patients with everything from anxiety to seizures. Many people want to try CBD oil and find out how it can help them. It is not at all difficult to find information about how CBD oil continues to amaze people with a wide range of benefits and uses. What is difficult to find, however, is what the right dose of CBD oil should be.

Why is determining the right dose difficult?

There are several factors that may determine what is the best dose for each individual situation. This is why websites will explain in detail why you should try CBD oil, but they don’t explain how to take it. Here are a few reasons why finding the correct dose can be a challenge:

  1. Lack of Medical knowledge. Because medical marijuana, hemp, and cannabinoid compounds including CBD oil are newcomers to mainstream medical practices, doctors have not been educated in the use and dosing of these products. Medical schools don’t provide the information that doctors need to feel comfortable recommending CBD oil to patients. Although some studies have been done, the information is not readily accessible to medical professionals.
  2. No regulation/standards. The FDA does not regulate CBD oil as a drug, rather it is a supplement with no set standards for manufacturing. This means that the quality and purity of CBD oil can vary dramatically from company to company. There are variations in processing, stock plant quality, and formulas. All of these factors can change how effective the CBD oil is and what the correct dose should be.
  3. Multiple disorders with multiple uses. CBD oil has been used consistently in treating multiple disorders including seizures, inflammation, pain, tumors, psychosis, anxiety, and even drug addiction. According to PubMed, the online service of the U.S. National Library of Medicine, CBD oil may be therapeutic for even more conditions, many of which are currently awaiting more study. These include acne, ADD and ADHD, AIDS, ALS, Alzheimer’s, anorexia, arthritis, asthma, digestive issues, endocrine disorders, fibromyalgia, kidney and liver disease, migraine, OCD, osteoporosis, PTSD, skin conditions, stroke, and sleep disorders. Dosage for CBD oil can vary depending on the complaint and the severity of the complaint. With so many possible uses for CBD oil, it is obvious why finding the correct dose can be confusing.

So how do I find the right dose for me?

Although there are many factors that make finding the correct dose difficult, the benefit of CBD oil is that it is very difficult if not impossible to overdose. That being said, it is still important to find the smallest dose that brings you relief. Here are a few guidelines to help you find the perfect dose:

  1. Start small. Medical professionals, researchers, and experienced CBD oil users all agree that it is best to start with a very small dose and gradually increase the dose as needed. The theory of “microdosing” has been proven in multiple research studies.
  2. Talk to your doctor. If you are being treated by a medical specialist for a specific diagnosis such as anxiety or epilepsy, your specialist will have a lot of experience with your specific complaint, prescription medications used to treat that complaint, and multiple patients with the same complaint. These days, it is likely that your doctor has patients who have requested or have tried CBD oil as a treatment for that complaint. While some doctors are still either uninformed or unwilling to recommend CBD oil as an option, they can still give you valuable advice about your specific complaint. If you start the conversation, your doctor may be willing to do his or her own research and help you determine the correct dose of CBD oil to treat your condition.

Although finding the correct dose of CBD oil can be confusing and frustrating at times, more and more information about CBD oil is being published every day. Patients who have successfully treated their illnesses with CBD oil are sharing what they have learned. Don’t be afraid to talk to other CBD oil users about their experiences, and start the conversation with your medical professional as well.
